Idaho’s James A. McClure U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building has been officially listed on the national register of historic places.

The U.S. General Services Administration touted the designation for the Boise building as a prime example of the 1960s modernism favored for federal buildings at the time of its construction, which started in 1961 and was completed in 1968.

Being listed on the historic register means any future changes to the building now must undergo historic review, both by the GSA and the Idaho State Historic Preservation Office.

The seven-story structure, designed by Idaho architect Charles Hummel and Charles Luckman, designer of such notable buildings around the country as Madison Square Garden and the Los Angeles Central Library, was renamed in honor of the late Idaho Senator Jim McClure in 2001. (Idaho Press)
