Nez Perce County’s first case of COVID-19 is SEL employee in Lewiston

The Idaho North Central Health District has confirmed the first positive case of COVID-19 in Nez Perce County, and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories has confirmed it is an employee at its Lewiston facility.

Health officials say the person under 60 years of age, who didn’t require hospitalization, is now quarantined at home. SEL says the person is recovering well.

Health district officials are releasing limited information to protect the patient’s identity. Epidemiologists are working to determine reasonable risk criteria for any locations visited by the patient and any close contacts with others who may have possibly been exposed.

SEL Senior Communications Manager Kate Wilhite says the company is working closely with the Public Health Department, Idaho North Central District, to ensure that those who have been in close contact with the employee have been notified and are self-isolating. SEL has also followed CDC and EPA guidance to conduct additional disinfection of relevant workspaces.

SEL manufactures devices that protect electrical grids, hospitals, data centers, pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, and other critical infrastructure. The federal government deemed manufacturers like SEL share a special responsibility to continue to operate.
SEL says it has implemented a range of measures to ensure the safety of employees and community. A significant number of our employees are working from home, and workers are cleaning and sanitizing around the clock, practicing social distancing, and taking many other steps described in more detail at https://selinc.com/company/news/130136/
