The Idaho Senate Education Committee has recommended approval the latest version of a kindergarten funding bill.
The measure, which has already passed in the House, would give school districts the option of full-day kindergarten by using $73 million in state literacy intervention money.
Republican Governor Brad Little has made boosting reading scores among young students a priority, saying good reading skills make for life-long learners and give students the best chance for a successful academic career and life.
The bill now goes to the full Senate for further action.
