Showers cause road closures, flooding

Heavy rains over the weekend have contributed to road closures and flooding around the region.

Excessive rainfall — with more forecast for today — prompted officials in the Stites area to warn of possible low-level flooding and close Luke’s Gulch Road past Fairview Cemetery.

Mild flooding occurred in two places in Idaho County, on Johnston Cutoff Road and Tolo Lake Road near Grangeville. Sections of both arteries have been closed.

A rockslide in Idaho County blocked both lanes of Mount Idaho Grade Road, about 1.3 miles from its intersection with State Highway 14. The roadway is now open after crews cleared the slide.

The National Weather Service is forecasting more moderate to heavy rain through Monday and warns more areas in the region could see localized flooding, especially in urban and poor-drainage areas, on and near burn scars and near swollen creeks and streams. (Lewiston Tribune)
