Residents of the Idaho County backcountry community of Orogrande have been warned to be ready to evacuate as a nearby wildfire continues to grow.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 2, or “Get Set” alert for Orogrande on Tuesday evening after the lightning-caused Williams Creek Fire, located about 5 miles west of the community, grew to more than 4,900 acres.

80 engines, three helicopters and two hand crews are assigned to the blaze that started on August 29th.

Crews are working on structure protection around the communities of Orogrande, Concord and Humptown with hoselays and sprinklers.

Meanwhile, the Twin Lakes Fire, east of Twin Lakes and Hagen Creek in the Gospel Hump Wilderness, is listed at 752 acres. It was first detected August 25th and firefighters have completed structure protection at the Square Mountain Lookout.

Firefighters expect gusty winds and low relative humidity to result in critical fire weather conditions for the next couple of days along with potential thunderstorms with little precipitation.
