A Culdesac man died at the scene of an ATV crash and controlled burn Wednesday at the top of Kettenbauch Grade near Culdesac.
88-year-old Ralph Steigers was found deceased at the fire scene when Nez Perce County deputies arrived and learned there had been an ATV accident. Deputies were dispatched after learning a controlled burn had gotten out of control and was spreading toward timber in the area at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Idaho Department of Lands, Nez Perce County fire, Culdesac fire, Lewiston paramedics, Culdesac Quick Response Unit and the Nez Perce Tribal Police also responded to assist with the crash and fire suppression.
