MOSCOW, ID – The Moscow Police Department says there was no evidence of forced entry at the residence where four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death sometime early Sunday morning. At a press conference this afternoon, Idaho State Police Director Kedrick Wills said the door was open when officers arrived but investigators found no sign that the perpetrator forced their way into the building.

Moscow Police Chief Jim Fry says all of the victims were “stabbed with a knife” and it was a targeted attack. Investigators are attempting to develop a timeline.

Two other people were at the residence at the time of the attack, but Wills says they were not injured.

The call to police was received at 11:58 a.m. Sunday morning. The 9-1-1 caller reported an “unconscious” subject. Police did not want to identify the person who made the call.

While there is no suspect at this time, officials say there does not appear to be a threat to the community, although Wills reminds residents to remain vigilant.

Officials say they are aware of the Twitch video being circulated of two of the female victims at a food truck early Sunday morning which they add will help establish a timeline.

Autopsies are being conducted this afternoon. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Ethan Chapin of Conway, Washington; 21-year-old Madison Mogen of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves of Rathdrum, Idaho; and 20-year-old Xana Kernodle of Avondale, Arizona.

A campus vigil will now happen on November 30th.

In addition to MPD and ISP, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation. More than twenty-five people are involved in the case.
