University of Idaho redshirt freshman quarterback Giovani McCoy has been named the 2022 Jerry Rice Award recipient.
The award, named after the NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver is given annually to the most outstanding freshman player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
McCoy finished his freshman season completing 204 passes out of 298 attempted for 2,719 yards with 27 touchdowns and just seven turnovers.
He helped lead the Vandals to the FCS Playoffs for the first time since the 1995 season.
McCoy will be honored at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.
