LEWISTON, ID – An 82-year-old Lewiston woman accused of poisoning and suffocating her ex-husband in early January has been deemed unable to stand trial. Last week, Kay M. Morrison was found not competent to stand trial for murder. Defense Attorneys had filed a motion to have her evaluated for competency on December 2nd. On Friday, Magistrate Judge Karin Seubert reviewed the findings of the evaluation done by a doctor and found Morrison to not be competent.

“The Department of Health and Welfare will determine the appropriate placement for her to be restored and able to assist in her defense to stand trial. The pending criminal charges will be paused until the defendant is deemed competent by the court to stand trial for her allegations,” a press release from the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office says.

Morrison’s daughter, 54-year-old Kimberley Morrison, previously pled not guilty to the first-degree murder of her father.

According to the probable cause affidavit, an investigation allegedly showed the two played a part in drugging, suffocating, and burning the body of the 87-year-old victim. The Morrisons were arrested following a search warrant at their home August 16th on Harvest Road in Lewiston.

Kimberly Morrison’s trial could potentially be held sometime in April. If convicted, the maximum sentence is life in prison.
