LEWISTON, ID – A 38-year-old Nez Perce County man was arrested on January 28th after he allegedly seriously injured a pregnant woman during a domestic altercation. According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, Daniel E. Mitchell was charged with Domestic Battery in the Presence of Children, Felony Aggravated Assault, and Felony Injury to Children and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.

Magistrate Court Judge Karin Seubert set bond at $100,000 and a Preliminary Hearing was scheduled for February 8th at 1:30 p.m.

Court documents say Nez Perce County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Finch Lane at about 6:50 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, contact was made with Mitchell in the front yard.

“Mitchell stated that he was drinking wine and that he lost his temper. Mitchell began to explain that he wouldn’t let [the woman] out of the room and he body checked her. Mitchell again stated he snapped,” the affidavit says.

Mitchell reportedly told deputies he “felt he needed to show what he could become” and “Mitchell stated he just wanted to be a d*ck.”

During the altercation, which reportedly happened in several locations of the house, was witnessed by three young children between the ages of one and nine, the affidavit says. Mitchell was allegedly carrying the youngest child during much of the incident, the document adds.

In addition, Mitchell allegedly threatened to “kill himself” and “was going to make her watch,” the affidavit says, adding that at one point he had a small .22 rifle pointed at himself.

The woman was transported to the hospital for a serious back injury and “significant” bruising.
