LEAVENWORTH, WA – Three people were killed and one person is injured from an avalanche near Leavenworth on Sunday. According to KXLY the Northwest Avalanche Center says the avalanche happened on Colchuck Peak, which is southwest of Leavenworth in the East Central Zone.
The agency says the avalanche involved a group of six backcountry travelers. The NW Avalanche Center says they believe three people in that group were buried and died in the avalanche, adding that another person was injured and evacuated by search and rescue crews.
The NW Avalanche Center says there are ongoing rescue efforts in coordination with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
