LEWISTON, ID – The No. 10 Warrior women wrapped up a dominant regular season as Cascade Conference Co-Champions and an automatic bid into the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship. LC State was awarded the No. 2 seed (via coin flip) in the Cascade Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, and will host seventh-seeded Corban on Wednesday in a quarterfinal matchup.
The seeding came down to a coin flip with LC State and No. 14 Eastern Oregon tied at the top. The Warriors won the flip and earned the automatic bid, and EOU was awarded the No. 1 seed. (RV) Southern Oregon is the No. 3 seed, and Oregon Tech wraps up the top four. All four schools will host a quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday.
Bushnell earned the fifth seed in the tournament and will travel to OIT. College of Idaho, who is seeded sixth, will take on SOU in Ashland, Corban will travel to the P1FCU Activity Center and No. 8 Evergreen State will face EOU.
LC State has advanced to the CCC postseason tournament in all three years it has been a member.
NO. 2 SEED – Lewis-Clark State (26-2, 21-1)
The Warriors finished a nearly perfect conference season with the only loss coming to conference co-champion EOU in overtime. The only other blemish in the regular season was a season-opening loss to then-No. 2 Westmont. After game one, LC State won 19 straight for the fourth-longest winning streak in program history, including wins over then-No. 25 Rocky Mountain and then-No. 9 Carroll.
LC State has won its last seven contests, including a 79-59 win over Corban who they play Wednesday. The LC Warriors are 8-1 against the Corban Warriors dating back to 2004 and have won the last eight meetings. LC defeated Corban this season by finals of 71-59 and 79-59. Callie Stevens dropped 20 points in each game.
The LC Warriors lead the CCC and are second in the NAIA in field goal percentage defense (.326). They are the top team in the conference in blocked shots per game (4.3), steals per game (11.4), turnover margin (6.29), assist/turnover ratio (1.3), and 3-pointers made per game (7.9). LC is second in scoring offense (74.2), scoring defense (56.8), scoring margin (17.4), field goal percentage (.419), 3-point field goal percentage (.328), rebounding (43.2) and assists per game (16.4).
Stevens, the 2021-22 Cascade Conference Player of the Year, leads the team and is fourth in the CCC in scoring this season with 15.0 points per game. She is second in assists per game (3.8) Maddie Holm is fourth in the conference in rebounding (8.2). Ellie Sander leads the CCC in steals per game (2.3) and is fifth in field goal percentage (.496).
Hannah Broyles is ninth in the conference in scoring (13.1) and is second in 3-pointers made per game (2.9). Sara Muehlhausen is the top blocker in the CCC with 2.3 per game and is one away from tying her single-season career-high set last year. She has 64 so far this season. Adyson Clabby leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio (4.4) and Stevens is second (2.6).
NO. 7 SEED – Corban (12-16, 9-13)
The Warriors clinched their spot in the CCC tournament with a 9-13 record in conference play. Corban swept its season series with Warner Pacific, Evergreen State, and College of Idaho
Corban last defeated LC State in the 2004-05 season.
The Corban Warriors are fifth in the Cascade Conference in free throw percentage (.697), rebounding (40.1) and rebounding margin (1.0), and sixth in field goal percentage defense (.377) and blocked shots per game (3.4).
Holly Golenor ranks seventh in the conference in blocked shots per game (1.4) and eighth in field goal percentage (.467). Maddie Gowin leads the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game and Golenor is second with 11.3 per game. Golenor leads Corban in rebounding with 7.0 boards per game.
THE DETAILS
LC State will host the quarterfinal contest on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the P1FCU Activity Center. The winner of the contest will move on to play in in the semifinals, and should LC State win the game will be played in Lewiston. The highest remaining seed will host the lowest remaining seed, and the second-highest remaining seed to host the second-lowest remaining seed. All games in the women’s tournament will be played at 5:30 p.m. local time.
