The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office says multiple school districts across eastern and central Washington were affected after they all received an e-mail suggesting a bomb threat at their local school.

Some schools affected even made the decision to close due to the impact the threats had on overall school operations. Law enforcement across the region responded to assist schools with safety concerns and to provide additional security until it was determined the threats were not valid. In Whitman County, deputies and local law enforcement responded to Colfax, Endicott, St. John and Lamont and Sprague.

Authorities have determined the e-mails were sent to over 30 schools across the state and are working to determine the source of the threats.

At this time the Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is an active or ongoing threat to schools or students affected by the e-mail. Parents are encouraged to contact their local school district if they have further questions about yesterday’s (Wed) response or other actions taken.
