Outdoor Watering Restrictions Begin for Lewiston Residents

Irrigation restrictions for many City of Lewiston water customers are in place starting today (Tue), and will remain in effect until further notice.

The restrictions ban the use of automated irrigation for most city of Lewiston water users. Affected customers are being asked to use hand-watering methods only. This involves using a hand-held hose equipped with an automatic shut-off mechanism, like a pistol nozzle, a trigger-spray hose nozzle, or other automatic positive shut-off nozzles.

The restrictions only apply to the use of water for outdoor irrigation purposes, and there are no restrictions on using domestic water inside homes. Additionally, the restrictions do not apply to customers served by the Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District.

The water conservation efforts are necessary to maintain adequate water pressure for firefighting capabilities and to keep up with irrigation demand while the City’s high reservoir is out of service.

City officials are working to repair the high reservoir and bring it back online. However, the process to obtain, manufacture and install certain elements of the reservoir will take time and officials hope to bring the reservoir back in service sometime in July.
