MESA, AZ – Jorgen Lie Viken completed his first round and shot an even-72 in the second round to make the cut at the NAIA Men’s Golf Championship at the Las Sendas Golf Club.
Viken concluded his opening round with a 3-over 75 and struggled out of the gate in Round 2. The senior double bogied No. 1, his starting hole for the round, before adding bogies on Nos. 2 and 4 to drop to 4-over through just four holes.
“It was a grind each and every shot,” LC coach Zach Anderson said. “That’s honestly how it’s going to be at that course.”
The Norway native carded a pair of birdies along with one more bogey to complete the front nine with a 3-over 39. It was the back nine where Viken shined.
Birdies on Nos. 12, 14 and 17 along with a bogey free nine holes helped the senior finish his second round inside the cut and in a tie for 29th place.
“(Viken) really persevered out there and it was fun coming down the stretch,” Anderson said.
Robin Conlan of Victoria-British Columbia leads the field at 5-under through the first two rounds of competition.
The third round begins at 8 a.m. PST on Thursday with the final round on Friday.
