CENTRALIA, WA – A 22-year-old Moscow woman and a Tacoma man who were arrested in March in connection with the overdose death of a University of Idaho student have had their charges dropped. According to The Chronicle newspaper of Centralia, Emma Bailey and 36-year-old Demetrius Robinson were set to go to trial today on charges of conspiracy to commit a violation of the uniform controlled substances act in Lewis County Superior Court following a Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team investigation.

The two codefendants were accused of delivering cocaine to the 22-year-old man, identified as Caden Young of Boise. He was visiting from the U of I and was treated at a hospital for an overdose following a party in Seattle the night of March 20th. He was found deceased the following morning. Police suspected fentanyl was the cause.

The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office filed motions to dismiss the cases against Bailey and Robinson without prejudice, which means the cases can be refiled in the same court of law.

In the written motions, the prosecutor’s office stated the dismissals were “based upon the subjoined affidavit of counsel,” adding, “In the interest of justice, your affiant respectfully requests the court grant the motion for a dismissal without prejudice,” The Chronicle reports.

The specific reasons for asking the cases to be dismissed were not clarified in the public court documents.

Young was majoring in journalism and was a past president of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity at the U of I.
