A Minnesota man traveled to Chicago twice last year to rob banks but then lost the money when someone stole his car with the cash inside.
Alan Duncan allegedly robbed a Chicago credit union on November 20, and then came back to Chicago ten days later to rob another bank.
Police were able to track Duncan’s car as it ran through several toll plazas between Chicago and Minnesota.
On December 2, police in Minneapolis found the car abandoned. It had red dye stains on the interior from an exploded dye pack.
They tracked down and arrested Mr. Duncan. Investigators later discovered that Duncan told his brother that he lost the money – about $8,000 total – when someone stole his car with the cash inside.
