GRANGEVILLE, ID – A 32-year-old Moscow man is believed to have drowned in a jet boat collision on the Snake River about 5.2 miles above the confluence of the Salmon River. Idaho County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report yesterday at around 9:15 a.m. that the night prior, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the boat struck a rock. A hole was torn in the hull but they continued down the river and got stuck on a gravel bar.
“The passenger walked up the gravel bar with his cellphone to try and signal help and the driver stayed on the jet boat,” according to a press release. “While he was out of the boat, the water rose, and he was unable to return to the boat. Around 3:00 AM, he was trying to communicate with the driver of the boat, and he was gone.”
Wacy DeCora is presumed to have drowned and has been entered as a missing person.
“Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Wacy. The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor the water and riverbank, in hopes of recovering Wacy,” the sheriff’s office says. “We wish to thank Kilgore Adventures, Homer Brown of Hammer Down River Excursions, Idaho Fish and Game, the US Forest Service, and Life Flight, as well as other jet boaters and rafters for their quick and immediate willingness to help in an emergency.”
