WINONA, WA – Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers has lifted the Level 1 (Get Ready) evacuation order for the town of Winona. The fire, which started early Friday afternoon, quickly grew due to heavy winds. It is currently 2,525 acres and 40% contained.
State-mobilized fire crews remain in and around the town of Winona and the fire area mopping up hot spots. Additional crews have arrived to help with mopping up.
