The Lewis-Clark State College theatre program is putting its touches on the play “Twelfth Night,” which will be performed at the college’s Silverthorne Theatre on Nov. 2-4 and 9-11 at 7:30 p.m.
“Twelfth Night” is romantic comedy written by William Shakespeare around 1601-1602 for the close of the Christmas season. The play centers on twins, Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. With the help of a captain, Viola disguises herself as a young man and enters the service of Duke Orsino. Eventually, a love triangle develops with plenty of mischief along the way.
Under the direction of Lane Richins of the LC State Humanities Division, the play has a splash of LC State flavor. Duke Orsino is an LC State baseball star, while Olivia is a women’s volleyball star. This allows deception, gender roles in sports, and community to all be explored as a series of comedic events unfold.
Performers in the play are all LC State students except for one from the University of Idaho.
Each performance of the play at the Silverthorne Theatre, inside the LC State Administration Building, is open to the public. Tickets are purchased at the door. General admission tickets are $10, while tickets for seniors, military, veterans and children 12-and-under are $5. LC State students will be admitted free with a student ID card. The production is suitable for all ages and goes for approximately 90 minutes.
