UPDATE: “The parties responsible for the Christmas Star vandalism have came forward. Thanks for all of your help.” – Ty Aiken

CLARKSTON, WA – The lighted Christmas star that is visible on the hillside overlooking the Lewis-Clark Valley during each Christmas holiday season was vandalized last night at around 10:44 p.m. The lights were reportedly changed from the star to a Pac-Man symbol. It was noticed early this morning and Asotin Lions Club members spent at least six hours today fixing the vandalism, including broken lights and tangled wires.

Club President Ty Aiken says this type of crime is costly in many ways.

This isn’t the first time vandals have damaged the Lions Club’s lights.

There is a security camera at the site and Aiken released two videos including audio.

One of the alleged suspects is heard saying, “So, uh, we didn’t see the no trespassing sign if we get caught.” Another male responded, “Didn’t we pull up to one of them?” “Yeah,” the first male says.

Aiken is optimistic that sharing the videos will help law enforcement determine who was involved in the vandalism.

The Lions have contacted the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office and Aiken is hopeful they will investigate the incident.

He adds that it is just very disappointing that anyone would vandalize the Lions Club’s site.

The lights were turned back on this afternoon.
