PECK, ID – (Window on the Clearwater) – Fire destroyed a single-wide manufactured home in Peck Sunday afternoon, according to Chief Randy Maas, Big Canyon Fire District (BCFD). Window on the Clearwater reports.

The home at 440 May St. belonged to Scott Turner and Amy Irish. Fortunately, they had left earlier. Unfortunately, though neighbors tried breaking out windows to rescue their pets, the couple’s three dogs perished in the fire, according to Bruce Lang, BCFD.

The fire call came at 11:55 a.m. Sunday and when the first responder arrived, the home was already fully engulfed. They put water on the structure, but it was beyond saving. An outbuilding was also burned. but the firefighters worked on the perimeter and were able to save the shop.

Lang said it [is] a horrible time of year to try to fight a fire, especially when they have to respond up icy roadways. Manufactured homes burn very quickly. Because of the way the fire burned, all evidence of an ignition source is destroyed, they do not know the cause of the fire.

Mayor-elect Cheryl Carson has contacted the Red Cross [on] behalf of the couple. They will be staying with family members in Lewiston for the time being.
