OLYMPIA, WA – House democratic budget writers rolled out their supplemental operating budget proposal for the 2023-2025 biennium today. The $71 Billion supplemental budget makes adjustments to the operating budget passed last year, and continues to focus on strengthening Washington families. Representative Timm Ormsby (D–Spokane), Chair of the Appropriations Committee, says they don’t go backward with this budget or fund one project at the expense of another.

Representative Steve Bergquist (D–Renton) talked about some of the projects that would be funded with the Climate Commitment Act resources.

He adds that with this budget, more Washington families will be able to afford to heat and cool their homes with an investment of $150 million dedicated to clean energy credits for low-income households, among other projects.

Vice-Chair Nicole Macri (D-Seattle) outlined funding for behavioral health and the Fentanyl crisis.

This budget takes advantage of the state’s strong economy and reinvests that growth.

“Luckily Washington’s economy is so strong that we can once again provide even more investments to our working families, aging seniors and newly arriving immigrants,” Ormsby says. “When we invest in Washingtonians they invest back in their communities and that’s what makes our economy strong.”
