OLYMPIA, WA – A Spokane anesthesiologist has entered into a stipulation to informal disposition with the Washington Medical Commission based on allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct, abused a patient, and practiced below the standard of care in the treatment of one patient. Michael C. Ferries, MD (Lic. #00029850) will be required to complete an ethics course, a boundaries course, write a paper summarizing his learning from these courses, disclose this Stipulation to all appointing patients for the duration of the Stipulation, make personal appearances, and pay cost recovery.
According to WMC documents, in May of 2023, while a female patient was being prepared for surgery and was under general anesthesia, the draping moved and exposed a breast. Ferries allegedly “touched Patient A’s uncovered breast with his hand without an appropriate examination or treatment purpose and made comments about Patient A’s breast(s) that had no legitimate medical or therapeutic purpose.”
Ferries may petition to terminate the Stipulation after four years.
