Athletes, teams and coaches from the Lewis-Clark State College Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs, as well as the LC State Baseball and Track and Field programs, were selected as finalists for the 61st annual North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame awards. Callie Stevens was named the North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame Female Athlete of the Year in the college division.
The award winners were announced at the annual banquet on April 6 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.
The awards honor both college and high school athletes from the spring and fall sports of 2023 and the recently completed winter sports of 2023-24. For the college awards, athletes, teams and coaches are selected from LC State, the University of Idaho and North Idaho College.
In the Female Athlete of the Year category, both LC State’s Jennah Carpenter, who won the NAIA outdoor high jump title, and Stevens, the three-time Cascade Conference Player of the Year, were nominated. One the men’s side, Carter Gordon, who won the NAIA indoor title in the 800m, was one of five nominees.
Both the LC Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, which advanced to the NAIA national tournaments, were nominated for Male and Female Team of the Year, respectively. Also, the Warrior Baseball team, which finished second in the Avista NAIA World Series, was a nominee. The coaches for those three teams – Caelyn Orlandi (women’s basketball), Austin Johnson (men’s basketball) and Jake Taylor (baseball) were nominated for Female and Male Coaches of the Year.
