Warriors Fall, End Season in NAIA Opening Round Tournament

Mitchell Middlemiss and Aaron Marsh both homered and the University of British Columbia eliminated Lewis-Clark State 8-3 in the NAIA National Opening Round Tournament, presented by Avista, Wednesday afternoon at Harris Field.

Daniel Orfaly got the win – allowing one run on 5 hits over 5-and-two-thirds innings.

Nick Seamons had two hits and an RBI and Charlie Updegrave and Brandon Cabrera each had two hits and scored on run a piece for the Warriors.

Decker Stedman took the loss – allowing 5 runs over 3 innings.

The Warriors end the season with a record of 38-13 and will miss the Avista NAIA World Series for the first time since 1998, and the first time ever when the tournament has been held in Lewiston.

Meanwhile, Arizona Christian advanced to the program’s first-ever appearance in the NAIA World Series with a comeback win over the University of British Columbia to take the Opening Round Title.

Jared Anderson delivered a walk-off solo homerun to secure an 8-7 victory.

Five other teams also qualified for the NAIA World Series: including Cumberlands, Kentucky; William Carey, Mississippi; Reinhardt, Georgia; Southeastern, Florida; and Tennessee Wesleyan. Four more teams are expected to wrap-up berths either Thursday or Friday.

The Avista NAIA World Series begins at Lewis-Clark State’s Harris Field on Friday, May 24th.
