BOISE, ID – Closing arguments in State v. Chad Daybell are expected to occur tomorrow at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise. The trial got underway nearly seven weeks ago, and the defense rested its case last week. The proceedings are being live-streamed on Judge Boyce’s YouTube page

The 55-year-old Daybell is being tried for the murder of Lori Vallow’s children, 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as the murder of his former wife Tammy Daybell. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Vallow, 50, was convicted a year ago of Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, and Grand Theft and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole last year.

The case has received national attention since 2020 when Vallow’s children were found buried in a shallow grave on Daybell’s Rexburg, Idaho property on June 9th, 2020, following a months-long investigation. They had disappeared the previous September.

Daybell’s trial takes place a year after he waived his right to a speedy trial.

After closing arguments and jury instructions, the jury will begin its deliberations. Ada County will update its webpage for the trial if jurors go home for the day and will update it once the jury reaches a verdict.
