LENORE, ID—Fire crews were dispatched to a small trash fire that got out of control due to gusty winds east of Lewiston earlier this afternoon along River Road. The fire, which was reported by a homeowner at around 1:23 p.m., was near the Nez Perce Tribal Fish Hatchery, which is located on the mainstem Clearwater River east of the Cherrylane Bridge.

According to Lapwai Fire Chief William Skiles, the Nez Perce County Fire Department responded with one firefighter and a brush truck, while the Lapwai Volunteer Fire Department responded with three people, a Type 4 engine, and a water tender.

Skiles says a nearby homeowner had been burning some paper, and the fire got out of control. It burned approximately two to three acres before firefighters controlled it at around 1:58 p.m.
