WHITMAN COUNTY, WA—Fire crews continue to battle a fast-moving wildland fire near Nisqually John Landing in Whitman County. High winds in the region have contributed to the fire’s swift growth to over 750 acres. The National Weather Service in Spokane says the breezy conditions will persist until tomorrow night.

State fire assistance has reportedly been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan to support local firefighters working to contain the Nisqually John Fire.

Under the plan, the Fire Protection Bureau coordinates the initial dispatch and continued administrative oversight of resources and personnel for the duration of the mobilization. It is implemented to provide a process to quickly notify, assemble, and deploy fire service personnel, equipment, and other resources from around the state when fires, disasters, or other events exceed the capacity of local jurisdictions.
