Texas Fire Near Kendrick Continues to Grow

A wildfire burning near Kendrick that has forced many to evacuate, continues to grow.

According to a news release from the Idaho Department of Lands, areas on Cedar Ridge, Texas Ridge, Linden, all the way down Highway 3 and across the river have been advised to evacuate and/or have been evacuated. The P1 and Texas Ridge roads remain closed.

Four structures have now been lost and many more remain threatened.

Evacuations are being handled by the Latah County Sheriff’s office with the assistance of Latah County Emergency Management.

The fire remains 0% contained and has grown to an estimated 1,323 acres.

According to the release, fire behavior is active with group torching, running and occasional spotting. Three-to-four-foot flame lengths have been observed in grasses. Two water scooping aircraft, four helicopters and two Single Engine Air Tankers are assisting the 100 firefighters with aerial water and retardant delivery on the fire.

More resources have been ordered, including a Complex Incident Management Team to manage the fire. The Incident Command Post will now be at Deary High School and the evacuation center is at Kendrick High School.
