Several area communities are listed as priorities in state plans for strategic locations for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The Idaho Governor’s Office of Energy and Mineral Resources, Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality this month announced potential locations for deploying electric vehicle charging infrastructure under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program.

Idaho anticipates rolling out N-E-V-I funding in multiple rounds during the next several years. Listed regionally for potential funding in round two are Kamiah, Grangeville and Riggins. Lewiston was selected as a potential EV charging site earlier this month.

The identified locations are potential sites for electric vehicle charging stations, but they are not finalized until after the state analyzes applications from stakeholders.

N-E-V-I is a federal program that distributes funding to states to deploy electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The goal is to establish a national interconnected network across the country with public charging stations every 50 miles.

The state recently completed a study using public feedback to assess which locations in Idaho maximize electric vehicle accessibility and effectiveness.

The state recently completed its Siting, Feasibility, and Access Study, an analysis of various site factors, with the collaboration of expert technical and public involvement partners. The study identifies locations with a goal of maximizing EV charging station accessibility and effectiveness. Several factors were ranked, compared, and categorized based on data and public input, such as average daily traffic volume, connectivity nodes, proximity to electrical substations, adjacent amenities, and benefit to disadvantaged and tribal communities.
