Nez Perce County Prosecutor Justin Coleman has filed notice that the State of Idaho will be seeking the Death Penalty against Skylar Meade who is accused of murdering James Mauney, of Juliaetta.

According to a news release, Coleman says after long and careful consideration the decision was made seeking the death penalty in the case. He added that the senseless and random killing of the 83-year-old Mauney and the facts surrounding what lead to his death, warrants capital punishment.

During the investigation, detectives from various agencies established probable cause linking Meade to the murder. After he was arrested in Twin Falls, Meade pled guilty to charges of escape and was sentenced to life with a possibility of parole after 35 years. He was then transported to the Nez Perce County Jail with coordination of the Idaho State Police,

Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office and Lewiston Police Department to face charges of First Degree Murder.

An arraignment proceeding is scheduled for August 8th.
