The City of Lewiston will be conducting hydrant flushing throughout the Lewiston Water System from September 8th to the 11th, and again from September 15th to 18th. Crews will be working nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

During the project, some residents may notice some discoloration in drinking water. However, the water is safe to drink. To clear any discoloration, officials say to run a cold tap until the water runs clear. It’s also advised to check hot water for any discoloration before using it for laundry.

Residents may also experience temporary low water pressure while the hydrants are being flushed.

Officials ask that all residents, particularly drivers, exercise caution during the flushing project, as there may be water on the roadways.

According to the city, hydrant flushing is an important process that helps clean the water mains, measures hydrant flows, and allows officials to assess the mechanical condition of the city’s fire hydrants.
