The Lewiston High School football team upset Coeur d’Alene 13-6 last (Thur) night in the home opener for the Bengals.

The game was scoreless until 8:30 left in the fourth quarter when the top-ranked Vikings scored a touchdown following a 99 yard drive that began late in the third quarter.

However, Nathan King and the Lewiston special teams responded immediately with a 75 yard kick-off return and Cole Arlint split the uprights to give the Bengals the lead 7-6 with 8:17 left in the game. LHS quarterback Mason Way then capped the scoring with a one yard touchdown run.

The Lewiston defense, which forced 4 turnovers, essentially sealed the win after Arlint secured an interception with about 1:40 left in the game. The Bengal offense was then able to move the ball down the field and run the clock out.

With the win, LHS improved to 1-1 on the season and will travel across the Snake River to meet Clarkston next Friday at Adams Field.
