The Lewiston High School marching band was nominated by Idaho U.S. Senator Jim Risch to represent the state of Idaho in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. on July 4, 2025.
According to a news release from the school district, the Bengal marching band will be featured alongside other performers in the parade to honor America’s past, present, and future. The parade will conclude with a fireworks celebration on the lawn of the Capitol building.
Community members can watch the festivities via livestream on the parade’s webpage at www.july4thparade.com/watch.
The LHS marching band is directed by Brendan Burns and assistant director Shelly Renzelman. The band features over 70 students in grades 9-12.
The Bengal marching band was founded in 1906 and was the first marching band in the Pacific Northwest.
Community members who would like to financially support the Bengal band in this once-in-a-lifetime event can make direct donations to the program at the LHS main office. The band will also be doing its annual fruit fundraiser in November to help raise funds for the trip.
