Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane announced the Idaho counties and precincts selected for a post-election audit following the November 5, 2024 General Election. The random draw to select the counties and precincts was conducted last week at the Idaho State Capitol by the Idaho Board of Canvassers, which includes Idaho Secretary of State McGrane, state Controller Brandon Woolf, and state Treasurer Julie Ellsworth.
Under Idaho Statute, the Secretary of State conducts a post-election audit to ensure the accuracy of the election results tabulation for even-year primary and general elections. Audit teams consisting of Secretary of State staff and Boise State University honors accounting students will visit the selected counties and perform a hand count of the general election ballots to compare with the canvassed election results. The public and media are welcome to attend the audits. The eight counties selected for audit and the scheduled audit dates are listed online at VoteIdaho.gov.
Some audits were conducted Saturday while others are scheduled for this week, including Latah County and Clearwater County where audits will be conducted Thursday.
