MOSCOW, ID – The City of Moscow Police Department has completed its investigation into an alleged sexual assault that reportedly happened on the evening of November 11th near Ghormely Park, not far from the University of Idaho campus.
“The Campus Division of the Moscow Police Department conducted a complete and thorough investigation into this incident and we would like to thank the officers involved for their diligent work,” MPD says in a press release. “Through the investigation it was learned this was a false report, a sexual assault did not take place and this case is now closed.”
The agency says it understands this reported incident and subsequent communication created fear and unease within the community and the University of Idaho Campus.
“This incident also re-fueled more information sharing about a possible “serial rapist” in our area,” MPD says. “MPD would like to restate to our community that there continues to be no information which would indicate there is a sexual assault suspect at large in our area.”
The press release says the agency is hopeful the findings of this investigation can help bring feelings of relief and security back to our community and students on the University of Idaho campus.
