Idaho Department of Fish and Game enforcement officers are seeking the public’s help to identify the suspect of a poached and wasted bull moose that was reported on December 1st on the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area.
According to a news release, the moose was shot with a rifle along Zaza Road, south of Larabee Road and was likely shot on or about November 29th. Unfortunately, none of the meat was able to be salvaged and the entire animal was wasted.
Moose are considered a trophy species in Idaho. No person may harvest more than one antlered and one antlerless moose in Idaho during their lifetime, except Super Hunt tag winners and leftover tag holders. No moose tags are issued for the Craig Mountain area within unit 11. Officers are looking for more help to solve the case.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call the Idaho Citizen’s Against Poaching Hotline, at 1-800-632-5999 or Conservation Officer John McLain 208-827-1488. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
