To boost the number of law-enforcement officers in Washington, a state senator is sponsoring a new bipartisan bill.

Senator Jeff Holy’s proposal creates a 100-million-dollar grant program to help local and tribal governments hire more officers.

The Cheney Republican says Washington ranks last in the number of officers per capita.

Holy, a retired police officer, believes the bill will ultimately make communities safer.
