Idaho Republican U.S. Representative Mike Simpson has introduced a bill that would add a needed federal district judgeship to resolve currently understaffed and backlogged courts in Idaho.
Simpson has fought for a more efficient and manageable court system in Idaho throughout his time in Congress. Most recently, Simpson voted in favor of the Judicial Understaffing Delays Getting Emergencies Solved Act of 2024 – better known as the JUDGES Act. President Biden vetoed the JUDGES Act in December despite broad bipartisan support and passing the House and Senate. Congress last authorized a second federal judgeship for Idaho in 1954.
Idaho U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch have introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
