CLARKSTON, WA – As the spring semester begins, TriState Health and the Clarkston School District mark the halfway point of the school year with the successful introduction of a new Athletic Training Program at Clarkston High School for the 2024-2025 academic year.

From TriState Health:
At the start of the 2024 school year, Mika Rives, DAT, LAT, ATC, was hired as the Clarkston High School Athletic Trainer, beginning with the fall sports season. A dedicated athletic trainer creates a culture of safety and support within the school’s athletic programs.

Every year, an estimated 300,000 students in the United States receive a sport-related brain injury in the United States. These injuries can affect a student’s ability to continue playing sports and may result in lasting brain damage if undetected. Having an athletic trainer onsite safeguards immediate response to emergent and non-emergent injuries, ensuring the safety of student athletes. Athletic trainers also play a crucial role in identifying and implementing preventative measures, reducing the likelihood of these injuries from happening.

“Through the 2024 Fall Semester, I had just over 1,200 recorded treatment interactions with student athletes. I create personal rehab plans, secure tape ankles, wrists, thumbs, and more, while also providing quality treatments to student athletes who are unable to practice,” said Mika. “In addition, I’m onsite at games to respond, evaluate, and treat injuries during game situations.”
