There’s more than meets the eye at the rollicking musical, Tootsie. Deck yourself in sparkles and come to the Regional Theatre of the Palouse to enjoy Tootsie, which will play at RTOP from February 13th through the 23rd!
Based on the 1982 film starring Dustin Hoffman, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and book by Robert Horn, Tootsie premiered on Broadway in 2019 and ran for more than 300 performances. The show enjoyed further acclaim on a national tour.
The lead in TOOTSIE, Michael Dorsey, played by theatre professional Andres Felipe from California, is a skilled actor whose reputation for volatility scares off directors and casting agents. In a desperate move, Michael disguises himself as an actress named Dorothy Michaels to win a role in a Broadway musical. He finally realizes his dream of show business success, but complications ensue when he falls for his dazzling co-star, Julie played by Pullman local Daphne Gunn.
With hilarious dialogue and an infectious score, Tootsie is a hands-down crowd-pleaser. Among the terrific tunes are, “Unstoppable,” “I Know What’s Gonna Happen,” and “I Won’t Let You Down”!
Stepping into the role of Rita Marshall in Tootsie is Becky Saunders: a professional singer, actress and director hailing from the east coast. Saunders was a lead performer in the National Tour of My Fair Lady seen recently in Spokane during the Best of Broadway series. She performed alongside RTOP veteran John Adkinson who played Colonel Pickering. Adkinson was seen previously in RTOP’s production of She Loves Me. RTOP continues to bring seasoned professionals like Saunders and Adkinson to the stage so local audiences here can experience the highest quality of Broadway talent in the heart of downtown Pullman
Produced by RTOP’s Executive Director John Rich, Tootsie is directed by theatre professional and Palouse native Michael Todd with community board member Tina McClure as musical director and Daphne Gunn as choreographer. Costume design for Tootsie is by John Rich, assisted by WSU intern Dallas Martin.
