Lewis-Clark State College will host the Idaho Music Educators Association (IMEA) Conference for the first time on Jan. 29 to Feb.1.
The conference, which gathers Idaho’s top music students and educators, will have over 500 high school students in attendance. Students will rehearse program music for concerts taking place Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the new Lewiston High School Auditorium. Rehearsals will be led by conductors from around the country. Educators in attendance will participate in conference sessions while students are rehearsing.
LC State will host rehearsals for high school honor groups including a mixed choir, orchestra, and jazz band, including lunches for each of those groups as well as for the treble choir, band, and jazz choir. In addition to LC State hosting students, LC State associate professor of music Sarah Graham is helping coordinate the event as well as present a clinic for the Capitol High School choir. LC State assistant professor Luella Loudenback is also presenting a conference session.
The LC State Jazz Band, under the direction of Brendan Burns, is performing with the University of Idaho Ensembles during a Host Night Concert taking place Jan. 30 at the Lewiston High School P1FCU Performing Arts Center.
The IMEA conference is an annual event that rotates locations each year around the state of Idaho.
“Usually, it has taken place at U of I, Boise State University, or Northwest Nazarene University, so this year it’s our turn, and the first time we’ve hosted the IMEA conference,” said Graham. “We are excited about the opportunity to have so many high school students on our campus.”
All rehearsals are open to the public, and tickets can be purchased for the Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 concerts.
