CLARKSTON, WA – Bond has been set at $125,000 for a 66-year-old Clarkston man who has been charged with 1st-Degree Child Molestation and 1st-Degree Rape of Child in connection with incidents that officials say happened approximately five years ago. According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, Timothy McCarty reportedly molested a girl under the age of 10 at the time of the alleged incidents.
“[The girl] stated she was scared, fearful, scattered, and anxious about what Tim did to her. [She] stated she was very shaky and wanted to cry right afterwards. [She] stated she did cry about this happening for 2 years afterwards,” the affidavit says. “[The girl] stated whenever she hears the name “Tim” or sees a movie with a “Tim” it, it brings back the memories. The girl reportedly told investigators that McCarty told her not to tell anyone about what had happened.
An investigator met with McCarty earlier this month at the Clarkston Police Department. He was asked about particular incidents that the girl allegedly described to officials.
“I asked Tim to tell me what happened and Tim stated he had nothing to hid[e],” the affidavit says. “Tim…asked me if I was telling him something happened and I told him I have a report that something happened.”
“Tim shook his head no. I told him I was here to get his side of the story about what happened. Tim told me I already got his side of the story.
Tim started to say he does not think anything happened and then stopped and said he does not believe it,” the affidavit says. “I asked Tim if something could have happened because he thought it was and he stated no and started to cry. Tim then wiped his eyes and exclaimed no! Tim stated he remembers [vaguely] someone being in bed with him and he was passed out asleep. Tim stated when he realized it was her by putting his arm around her noticing she was skinny he thinks he got upset because she was in the bed with him.”
McCarty then allegedly told the investigator that the girl was “provocative for her age.” the document says.
“Tim told me what he is telling me is the gospel. I told Tim I do have information that he did touch her inappropriately that night. Tim stated well you have that information and he understood that and that it was my job,” the affidavit says. “I asked Tim if he ever had sexual intercourse with [the girl] and he stated “Oh my god no.” Tim then asked me if he needs to get an attorney and I told him I don’ t know. Tim then stood up put his arms up and I told him like I said Tim you are free to go. Tim got a scrunched look on his face and turned and walked out of the interview.”
McCarty was booked into the Asotin County Jail on Monday morning.
