The Whitman County Commission plans to officially declare a state of emergency after heavy rains and warmer temperatures caused flooding and washouts on several county roadways over the weekend.

According to preliminary estimates between $500,000 and $1 million in damages have been incurred countywide. The declaration would speed up repairs to dozens of county roads and bridges damaged. Officials say repairs will likely take several weeks.
