Idaho Governor Brad Little has signed the $50 million Parental Choice Tax Credit bill into law.
The controversial legislation will allow, for the first time in state history, funds to be allocated to private and religious schools.
The program, makes up to $5,000 available per student, which can be paid in advance to families making 300% of the federal poverty level and below. Families with students with a disability can receive up to $7,500 for those students.
Opponents of the legislation, including the Committee to Protect and Preserve the Idaho Constitution, have indicated their intent to file a lawsuit to stop the measure from being implemented.
