Former Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer.
According to a news release from the Kempthorne family, the news has come as a shock to family, friends, and those who have worked closely with Kempthorne over the years.
Kempthorne will begin chemotherapy immediately.
Along with serving as Idaho Governor, Kempthorne has represented the state in the U.S. Senate and in the Bush Administration as U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
Kempthorne is the current USS IDAHO Commissioning Committee Advisory Board Chair and Chair of the Peregrine Fund: Raptor Recovery Program.
