Lewiston High School’s football head coach is stepping down. Matt Pancheri has headed the program for nearly seven years. He quietly made the announcement on the LHS Football Facebook page this afternoon (Thurs). In it, he says “This has not been an easy decision, but after a lot of thought and prayer, I know it is the right thing to do for me and my family.” We reached out to him for comment, but he was unavailable.
LHS Principal Kevin Driscoll released a statement to us saying “Coach Pancheri is an outstanding Coach, but more importantly, he is a builder of your men. Matt struggled with this decision and we talked many times about it. “Ultimately, it came down to what was best for his family in the long run. SE Idaho is his home. The ultimate compliment for a Coach is when a parent says I would want my son or daughter to play for you. I told him I was so fortunate for my son to play for great coaches in his time at LHS. I would have been proud and appreciative if my son played for Coach P as well.”
