U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo have teamed up with Senators from 10 other states to repeal some gun laws put into effect under the Biden administration.
They’ve created the “Stop Harassing Owners of Rifles Today” or “SHORT” Act. A press release from Risch’s office says it ends the unconstitutional taxation, registration, and regulation of weapons under the National Firearms Act. That includes short-barreled rifles and shotguns.
Under the current National Firearms Act, or “NFA”, pistols with stabilizing braces were considered illegal short-barreled rifles. The ATF then could use the argument to ban those firearms and force gun owners to participate in what the release calls “an unconstitutional firearm registry.”
The release says the SHORT Act will prevent the ATF from enacting future versions of the ban and require the ATF to destroy all records relating to the registration, transfer, or
manufacture of NFA weapons.
Risch said “Democrats’ attempts to undermine the Second Amendment are unconstitutional and must be stopped…The SHORT Act protects law-abiding Idaho gun owners from unlawful registry, taxation, and regulation of commonly owned firearms.”
