A warning is going out from The Washington State Department of Health. They’re urging parents and caregivers to make sure their kids are protected after the breakout of a fifth case of measles this week in Washington state and 800 confirmed cases across 24 states.

They also recommend adults check their immunization records to make sure you’re up to date.

Measles can cause fever, rash, and sometimes pneumonia and brain inflammation.

The Department of Health says kids should get their first shot between 12 and 15 months, and then a second dose between 4 and 6 years old.

In 2020 the CDC declared measles eliminated from the U.S. after high vaccination rates stopped the spread, except for cases coming from overseas, but declining vaccination rates have resulted in the recent spread.
